Who is yoga for pregnant women suitable for?
- Pregnant women at the very beginning of pregnancy
- Beginners who have not actively exercised before
- Women who want to learn relaxation techniques
- Anyone who wants to prepare for childbirth
Lesson content and objectives
During each session, participants gain new knowledge, energy and confidence in preparation for childbirth. Through these exercises, we help relieve and prevent common pregnancy discomforts and prepare the body for labour.
The exercises help reduce tension in the neck, shoulders, back, pelvis and legs, and support healthy digestion. We also work on stretching and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles and the muscles of the lower back and hips to improve flexibility for childbirth. Each session also focuses on relaxation and body awareness, helping participants learn how to relax in different positions. We practise techniques for managing thoughts and visualisation to support emotional and physical coping during labour.
Lesson plan
Monday
10am Pregnancy yoga, 60 min
11.30am Pregnancy yoga with discussion circle, 90 min
Classes are led by midwife Meelike Reimer.
Session format
Pregnancy Yoga (60 minutes)
This session includes less explanation and focuses mainly on the exercises.
Pregnancy Yoga with Discussion Circle (90 mins)
During the lesson, we spend 30 minutes discussing topics of interest to pregnant women and 60 minutes doing exercises. Each discussion is different and includes practical tips for relieving pregnancy discomfort, preparing for childbirth, and caring for and feeding the baby. Experienced mothers often share reassurance and advice with women who are expecting their first baby, and the midwife is always there to provide guidance and support.
