
Preparing for hospital admission
General information
Arrival at the hospital
Patients arriving for scheduled hospitalisation are directed to their treatment location according to their assignment:
- Merimetsa Medical Campus – Inpatient or Day Surgery Department

The entrance is located inside the building. - Women's Health Clinic – Inpatient or Day Surgery Department
Sõle 23, Building A, 2nd Floor
Please go up the ramp; the entrance is located on the right-hand side.
We recommend arriving strictly at the scheduled time and bringing a valid identity document as well as a referral for treatment issued by your doctor.
When coming to the hospital, please bring the following items:
- A valid identity document (passport, ID card, or driver’s license)
- A referral from your general practitioner or specialist
- Results of previous examinations and analyses
- A list of medications you take daily
- Necessary personal hygiene items
- Change of shoes
- Nightwear and/or a bathrobe, if desired (hospital clothing will be provided if needed at the hospital reception)
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hospital.
The use of mobile phones is permitted; however, it must not interfere with the operation of medical equipment or disturb other patients.
Valuables brought to the hospital may be stored in the department’s safe. The hospital is not responsible for valuables kept in patient rooms or wards.
Catering
- If you arrive at the hospital after 9am, lunch on the day of admission cannot be guaranteed.
- Patients who arrive before 1pm will be provided with dinner on the day of admission.
- During hospitalisation, patients are served three meals a day.
- On the day of discharge, only breakfast will be provided.
Bed fee
- The daily bed fee is 5 €.
- The bed fee is charged for the provision of inpatient specialised medical care for each calendar day that begins during the hospitalisation period, starting from the second day of treatment, and for no more than 10 calendar days per case of illness.
- Patients referred to active treatment at West Tallinn Central Hospital from another medical institution will be charged a total bed fee for up to ten days. The calculation is based on the certificate issued by the referring medical institution confirming the payment of the bed fee.
- An invoice for the bed fee is issued by the department on the morning of the patient’s discharge, but no later than after the patient has left the department.
Exemptions from the Bed Fee
The bed fee is not charged in the following cases:
- For intensive care days (an intensive care day is defined as a continuous stay in intensive care for 18 hours or more)
- During the involuntary treatment of patients with particularly dangerous infectious diseases (plague, cholera, yellow fever, viral hemorrhagic fevers, and tuberculosis)
- For inpatient specialized medical care related to pregnancy and childbirth
- For patients receiving renal replacement therapy
- In cases of independent inpatient nursing care
- For minors (persons under 19 years of age)
- For caregivers of a minor staying in intensive care
- When paid medical services are provided
- For patients staying in a paid ward
- In the event of the patient’s death
The bill for the bed fee is presented to the patient on his last day of treatment.
Payment of the Bed Fee
The bed fee can be paid at the following locations:
- At Merimetsa Medical Campus (Paldiski mnt 68): with clinic assistants, at the Emergency Medical Centre, or at the information desk
- At the Women’s Health Clinic, Gynecology Department (Sõle 23)
- At the Infectious Diseases Clinic (Paldiski mnt 62)
Payment can be made in cash or by card. In rare cases, an invoice can be issued.
When paying by bank transfer, please indicate the service invoice number and the patient’s name in the payment reference.
The invoice issued to the patient must be paid within 7 days.
If the payment deadline is exceeded, a reminder will be sent to the patient. If payment is not received within 30 days after the due date, the invoice will be forwarded to a debt collection agency for further processing.
Day treatment
Day surgery patients are treated either in the Day Surgery Department on the 2nd floor of the Merimetsa Medical Campus or in the Surgery Department on the 4th floor.
Day surgery patients are typically those who recover quickly after surgery, remain in the department for more than four hours, and are discharged for home care on the same day.
