Cervical cancer screening

Prevention and early detection of cervical cancer

Cervical cancer screening is a preventive health check that iscarried out every five years. The programme is available to womenaged 30 to 65 and is free of charge for all eligible participants, regardless of whether they have health insurance.

To book a screening appointment, please call 626 1314 Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6pm.

If you are in the age group invited for screening this year, you do not need to wait for a formal invitation and may book your appointment directly. Participation in the screening is free of charge for all women, including those without health insurance.

2025 screening target group

In 2025, we invite women born in 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, and 1995 to attend free cervical cancer screening.

It is important to attend the screening even if you have no symptoms or concerns. Cervical changes detected at an early stage can be treated very effectively.

More information about the study can be found at the Health Insurance Fund website.

  • You can view your test results on the patient portal https://www.terviseportaal.ee/.
  • If any changes are identified in your results, you will be referred for an appointment with a gynaecologist. Further assessment may include a smear test (PAP test), colposcopy examination (a more detailed examination of the cervix), and, if necessary, a biopsy (a small tissue sample taken from the cervix).
  • Once all results have been received, a decision will be made regarding any further treatment required.

Why take part in screening?

  • Cervical cancer screening checks for early cell changes that could develop into cancer. Detecting these changes early means they can be treated before cancer develops.
  • Free and easily accessible: In Estonia, cervical cancer screening for eligible women, including those without health insurance, is free of charge and is carried out in various health facilities across the country. It is also possible to order a home HPV test.
  • Taking part in screening is an important step in looking after your health.
