Colposcopy
Examination to detect cervical abnormalities
Colposcopy is a detailed examination used to assess the condition of the cervix and identify abnormal or precancerous changes. The procedure is performed using a colposcope, which allows the doctor to examine the cervix under magnification. If necessary, a small tissue sample (biopsy) may be taken during the examination for further analysis.

When is colposcopy recommended?
- Abnormal results from a smear test (PAP test),
- visible changes to the cervix,
- bleeding after intercourse.
The colposcopy cannot be performed if:
- you are menstruating
- there is a significant cervical or vaginal infection (must be treated in advance)
These situations can make accurate assessment difficult.
Important information for the patient
You will be informed by the healthcare professional who carried out the examination when your results are available.
After a biopsy, you may experience light brown discharge for a few days.
