Pelvic floor physiotherapy
Pelvic floor physiotherapy consultations in Tallinn
Pelvic floor physiotherapy helps you learn to use your pelvic floor muscles more effectively to improve bladder and bowel control.
Muscle function is assessed during activity, and objective feedback is provided. Where appropriate, electrotherapy may be added to support the exercise programme.

How does pelvic floor physiotherapy work?
Pelvic floor physiotherapy focuses on conscious control of the pelvic floor muscles and improved bladder and bowel control. The physiotherapist assesses muscle function during contraction, provides objective feedback and teaches you how to perform the exercises correctly.
Device-based treatment may be used alongside exercises when needed. One option is transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation, or TPTNS.
Tibial nerve stimulation — TPTNS
Transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation (TPTNS) is a procedure that uses electrical stimulation to influence the nervous system and improve bladder and bowel control.
During the procedure, electrical impulses stimulate the tibial nerve, which is connected through nerve pathways to the regulation of bladder function. Treatment may help improve control over bladder muscle contractions and reduce involuntary urine leakage.
The physiotherapist teaches you how to carry out the TPTNS procedure.
Contraindications to TPTNS
TPTNS treatment is contraindicated if you:
- Have a pacemaker or an implanted defibrillator
- Have an increased tendency to bleed
- Have peripheral nerve damage
- Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during treatment
- Have a diagnosed malignant tumour
- Have metal implants in the treatment area
The procedure should not be performed during menstruation, when you have a headache, during an acute illness or a flare-up of a chronic condition.
