Specialist appointment fees and payment

The standard consultation fee for a specialist doctor is 20 euros. This fee is payable at the first appointment, including visits to the emergency department.

The same fee applies to appointments with physiotherapists, clinical psychologists and speech therapists if referred by a doctor outside West Tallinn Central Hospital.

Payment can be made in cash or by card at reception.

Reduced fee of 5 euros applies to:

  • people aged over 63
  • unemployed individuals
  • people with reduced working capacity
  • recipients of subsistence benefits and their family members
  • mothers of children under one year of age
  • recipients of a disability pension or old-age pension under the State Pension Insurance Act

The following are exempt from the outpatient appointment fee:

  • patients whose outpatient specialist care is immediately followed by inpatient treatment at West Tallinn Central Hospital
  • patients under 19 years of age (with ID)
  • patients referred to another specialist by a specialist doctor at the West Tallinn Central Hospital
  • patients referred by a specialist in the same field from another medical institution, upon presentation of a referral
  • pregnant women upon presentation of a pregnancy card
  • patients attending a gynaecology appointment within three months after childbirth
  • patients undergoing renal replacement therapy (dialysis)
  • patients receiving paid healthcare services at the West Tallinn Central Hospital
  • patients attending appointments as part of the preventative health programmes
  • detained persons (including prisoners from open prisons attending with official documentation)
  • patients referred from the nursing clinic

Please note: In case of non-payment of the appointment fee, the hospital's health information system will automatically generate an invoice. The outstanding amount remains in the patient’s name until it is paid. The patient will be informed of the outstanding balance at the next contact with West Tallinn Central Hospital.

Unpaid fees may be transferred to a debt collection agency. Please ensure the appointment fee is paid on time to avoid any inconvenience. The fee can be paid at the reception desks of the West Tallinn Central Hospital’s health centres, at the information desk at Paldiski mnt 68, at the emergency department reception, or outside normal reception hours in accordance with clinic procedures.‍

Important to know

Prescribing a prescription, issuing referrals for examinations and procedures, as well as laboratory tests, are considered a follow-up visit to a specialist.

If documents confirming exemption from the visit fee are not provided, the patient is required to pay the visit fee.

Please note: If the appointment fee is not paid, the hospital information system automatically generates an invoice. The patient will be informed of the outstanding balance by the hospital’s finance department or at their next visit to West Tallinn Central Hospital. To avoid inconvenience, please ensure the fee is paid on time.
