Admission to Hospital

Important information for your visit

Here you will find important information about your hospital visit, including what to bring, catering arrangements and information about inpatient charges. Please read the following guidance to help make your stay as comfortable as possible.

What to bring

Please bring the following items with you:

  • identity document (passport, ID card or driver's license)
  • medications taken daily
  • personal toiletries
  • indoor footwear
  • optional: nightwear and/or a bathrobe (hospital clothing will be provided if needed at admission)

General information

Free WiFi is available throughout the hospital.

Mobile phones may be used, provided they do not interfere with medical equipment or disturb other patients.

Valuables can be stored in the department safe. The hospital is not responsible for valuables kept in the ward.

Catering

  • If you arrive after 9am, lunch cannot be guaranteed on the day of admission.
  • If you arrive after 12.30pm, meals will not be provided on the day of admission.
  • During your stay, meals are provided three times a day.
  • On the day of discharge, only breakfast will be provided.

Inpatient fee

  • The daily inpatient fee is 5 euros.
  • The fee is based on sections 71 and 72 of the Health Insurance Act.
  • The fee is charged from the second day of hospital stay, for each calendar day, up to a maximum of 10 days per episode of care.
  • A patient referred for inpatient treatment at West Tallinn Central Hospital from another medical institution will be charged a maximum of ten days of inpatient fees in total. The calculation is based on confirmation of payment issued by the referring medical institution.
  • An invoice for the inpatient fee is prepared by the department on the morning of the day of discharge, or at the latest, after the patient has left the department.
  • Patients will be informed of the total fee before leaving the ward‍.

The inpatient fee is not charged:

  • for intensive care (defined as 18 hours or more in intensive care)
  • for the involuntary treatment of patients with certain infectious diseases (plague, cholera, yellow fever, viral haemorrhagic fevers and tuberculosis)
  • for inpatient care related to pregnancy and childbirth
  • for patients receiving renal replacement therapy
  • for patients receiving inpatient care
  • for minors (persons under 18 years of age)
  • for caregivers of a minor receiving intensive care
  • for paid medical services
  • for patients in a paid ward
  • in the event of the patient’s death

Payment of the inpatient fee

The invoice will be issued on the final day of treatment.

Payment can be made:

  • at the hospital departments at Paldiski mnt 68 (on site), including reception desks, the emergency department and the information desk
  • at the gynaecology department of the Women's Health Clinic (Sõle 23)
  • at the Infectious Diseases Clinic (Paldiski mnt 62)

Payment can be made by cash or card. If needed, an invoice can be issued.

When paying by bank transfer, please include the invoice number and the name of the patient. Invoices must be paid within 7 days.

If payment is not received, a reminder will be sent. If the invoice remains unpaid after 30 days, it may be referred to a debt collection agency.
