Diagnosis, surgical treatment and follow-up of gynaecological tumors
We treat malignant tumours arising from the female reproductive organs, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vagina and vulva.
We also treat malignant tumours associated with conception and pregnancy, the treatment of complex benign gynaecological tumours and precancerous conditions.
Our department is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and collaborates with experienced pathologists across Estonia.
Individual approach and multidisciplinary team
Each patient receives an individualised treatment plan. Medical history, imaging results and biopsy findings are reviewed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of specialists from different disciplines.
The multidisciplinary team includes gynaecological oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, medical oncologists, clinical oncologists and pathologists from West Tallinn Central Hospital, East Tallinn Central Hospital and the Northern Estonia Regional Hospital.
Based on the team’s discussion, the most appropriate personalised treatment plan is developed.
Surgical treatment
We perform the majority of major tumour removal procedures using minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques. This means minimal postoperative pain for the patient, a shorter hospital stay, a faster return to normal life and earlier commencement of any additional treatment if required.
Where clinically appropriate, we also offer fertility-preserving surgery for selected patients. During surgery, rapid histological analysis of the tumour and the lymph nodes may be performed. This allows the surgical team to determine the necessary extent of the procedure while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible, supporting improved long-term quality of life.
